In October I did a 20 day yoga challenge at my favorite local studio. The most challenging part? Getting to the 6 am class as the days were growing darker and colder.

One of my favorite parts of the session was a reintroduction to essential oils. Back in my hippier days, I used to use essential oils all the time but somehow they went the way of my Birkenstocks and tie dye.

I like sweets as much as the next person but the holidays can be sugar overload. I always appreciate a non-edible, consumable gift and I imagine others do too. This peppermint sugar scrub is a not too spendy DIY gift that is perfect to leave on coworkers’ desks, neighbors’ doorsteps or take along as a little hostess gift.

To be honest, I chose peppermint because it’s what I had on hand, but with all those candy canes floating around, it seemed like a good fit for the season. Especially since peppermint can help with those stuffy, winter noses too. That all said, this sugar scrub could easily be made with lavender or orange or any of your favorite essential oils, or if you really want to get crazy, create your own custom blend (rosemary lemon anyone?).

This peppermint sugar scrub smells so good it might be tempting to eat it, but I’d suggest sticking with the candy canes. Happy holidays from the Bistro OneSix!
