Bistro OneSix

a reason to be excited about morning

A few years ago I went to Switzerland to visit a friend and was introduced to Nespresso. From the very start I was destined to fall in love with this product. Keep in mind, this is way before the single serve coffee machines had gained much popularity in the US.

The packaging designer in me loves the sleek profile of the machine and the boutique approach to their pods, decked out in pearlescent colors. The packaging had me drooling before I even took my first sip. In Geneva they have a Nespresso store that gave Godiva a run for their money in creating a retail environment that was sophisticated, classy and gorgeous. It was that kind of store where everything is so well designed that you feel a little more beautiful just being there.

And then I tasted the coffee that slowly came dripping out of the humming machine… and from there on out, I made at least two a day. It was fun to make and oh so delicious. It became an integral part of the tastes of my European vacation.

So imagine my surprise to find the very coffee machine at my local Macy’s just a few weeks later. I stopped in my tracks at the very sight and the memories it evoked. The price equally stopped me in my tracks and the Nespresso became something I could dream about.

A couple years later my boyfriend (now husband) knew the exact thing that would rock it under the Christmas tree – yep…my own little Citiz Nespresso maker with milk frothier. It still gives me something to look forward to every single morning.
